Fast age up
26 Dec - 14:52
In order to succeed in online multiplayer a fast colonial age is required. Colonial age means factories to support your war economy.
I succeeded yesterday to get age 3 much faster than the pc on hard. How to do this:
Send villagers at start to the crates with food when the game is still frozen. Not just crates, food crates. 3 on each because there are two. After which they will take automatically gold and wood crates. Keep focus on the town center and click on create villager asap the first crate is opened. your town center should constantly be creating villagers up till 15 (exlcuding scout and other units, 15 workers).
The ones that opened the first food crate, send them hunting the closest wild animals, the other 3 will open the gold and wood crates. Now send your scout around and pick up treasures. This gives XP which will aloow you to send the 3 villager card fast. If a treasure is guarded by more than one, then kill one and walk away. the guardian will not persuit you. Return when the one shot kill is back active and shoot the second guard, and so on.
If your scout finds herding animals, send them to your town center. They will fatten there.
When the last 3 villagers opened the wood/gold crate, then send one to lumber and one to gold. The third one construct a house with 100 wood. Don't put the house far away. Close to the forest where he will work on after completion of the house. Villager walk time is ineffective. So now you have 3 hunters, 2 wood and 1 gold miner.
Mine gold till you got 50 then send this villager to food hunting at the same group of the first 3. Once you got 100 wood, take one of the lumbers to build a market right next to his forest. Then back to wood. In total you need 250 wood. 100 for the house, 100 for the market and 50 for hunting dogs. When you got 250 wood, send the lumbers to food. Might be a different herd then the first group. Spread lowers risk of fatal attack from rushers. The three villagers for the shipment should join him. If the herd is a bit further from your town, then first walk past the animals and shoot them toward your town center. They will run in the direction of the town at each shot fired. So after 5 animals they get closer to your town than entering the enemies town.
Once got 15 build, stop creating villager, you should have now between 700-800 food in reserve. Stay on the town center and as soon as you got 800 click age up. I take the 400 wood crates from the options.
you can't create new villagers while aging, so no need to keep going for food and have potentially 2000 food, no wood or gold. Get back on wood and build a second house when 100 wood is yours. Put 5 villagers in que for when the age 2 research is complete (shift+click). Take villagers of the hunt by asigning them to the NEAREST forest and gold mine. Don't send them back close to town, that is lost walk time. Keep 4 on food. 3 on wood and 8 to gold. New villagers to all to gold mines. Spread over two. Farther from town center is safe at this point in the game. The one next to town center I keep for later. Go to market place and upgrade mining, this costs 75 food and 75 wood), then upgrade wood gathering for 100 food.
First shipment when aged, should be 4 villager card. Send them to gold as well. Get around 15 people on gold. The aim is to have 1200 food and 1000 gold asap. If you got 1000 food and 500 gold, then you still have to many hunters. Move some to the gold mines.
Start building a barrack and stable with the wood supply, and extra house for 30 population (shift click to make multiple houses with one command). Forward of the town center, toward the enemy. Keep spawning villagers till you are close to 1000 gold, then stop making villagers if you are below 1200 food. Age 3 click when possible. Now do the remaining upgrades in the market place that cost gold. Upgrading the ones that don't cost gold, you can do when you are in age 2.
Time to re-arrange the villagers. Put more on food as you will build a mini defensive army. Preferably units which cost food and wood. So move the miners to wood and food. Second shipment card after the 3 villagers, is the faster wood card +20%.(the +4 villagers from the castle age won't be available yet).
Get 600 wood and put your scout on a new town center. This will help to speed the villager creation and thus the economy boost. Then start building a wall. Troops are more important than a wall. A wall slows down, troops kill.
Now you really need alot of wood, for your buildings and outposts and upgrade of the wall and outpost.
Nex shipment is a castle. Don't put it next to the wall. you want to be able to defend it from howitzers under the protection of your outposts. So the howitzers need to come closer. Off course not to far from the wall, it need to shoot at troops which are next to the wall.
When the hunting is starting to be risky, pull the villagers back to create 2 mills and 2 plantations. Get 20 people on it fast. Your economy slows down when hunting and mining is done. Never put villagers on the berry bushes. This is as slow as farming. Your mill gets upgrades in every age. So after the first upgrade, your mill is faster then berries. Berries is thus the slowest income of food!
Might change this to livestock when the tactic is tested. Then we can start with builing the pen in age2 for 250 wood and spawn a few sheep so they are fat when the hunting is done.
Arsenal upgrades are for after the colonial age. Don' waste resources yet. In age 3 it is better to have 5 horses then one horse with 10% more hitpoints. Also the home town shipments that boost your troops are for after the ecomic card: gather all food faster +25% and gather gold from plantations faster +25%.
